Sassy Designs….
Cool, Fun, Independent, Free-spirited.

Welcome to Sassy Designs. Created in 2002 by Chicago artist and owner Veronica Lamb, this line of unique, colorful handbags and jewelry started in the spare bedroom in her tiny garden apartment as a way to express her creative side. The jewelry was her original focus, designing and beading special pieces as gifts for friends and family. She never imagined that it would become her passion and her future career. A serendipitous visit to a thrift store (and $30) made Veronica the proud owner of a second (or third or fourth)-hand sewing machine. This was the official birth of her line of handcrafted, one-of-a-kind handbags. She used fabric of different colors and patterns to create something new and unique every time. The response from friends and family was overwhelming, and the orders started coming in, “Can you make me a handbag for my mother”, “It’s my girlfriend’s birthday and I want something unique, I’ll pay you for it”.

The next step from there was natural and the litany from friends the same: “Veronica, you’ve got to start selling this stuff!” She decided to get a booth at a local Chicago craft/art fair and was blown away by the response. People loved the designs and colors. Being a girl that loves accessories, making handbags became addictive and the response from the public encouraged her to make more, and create new designs. Veronica states that “putting fabrics and colors together to make something beautiful that someone will love is just beyond thrilling…it is a way to express myself and allow others to express their individual style. I love using materials that people wouldn’t think of for a handbag, like the vintage tie bags.” Her line of bags that uses vintage neckties as straps has since become her biggest seller.

Three years later, and Sassy Designs now keeps her so busy she may have to quit her day job. She looks forward to the day when her line of jewelry and handbags is her sole source of income, as it’s already her heart and soul. She thanks each and every person who encouraged her to follow her dream, and those that supported her by appreciating her art.

Sassy Designs has been featured in WHERE Chicago and Time-Out Chicago magazines, Daily Candy – Chicago newsletter, and the 101.9 the Mix website’s Style File feature. They were also featured in the style segment of the local ABC morning news. So, enjoy visiting our site. Every bag and piece of jewelry you see is one-of-a-kind, and once it’s sold, there will never be another one made quite like it.
